Black & Decker PSV1800 Review – What We Loved About this Gutsy Little Stick Vacuum

I don’t know about your house, but in my house the floors are always the dirtiest part of the house by far. Even though we take our shoes off at the door every time we go out, the floors are constantly being decorated with bits of food, dust from outside, dog and cat hair as well as bits of cat litter and more unsavory things that need to be cleaned on a daily basis. If you have the same troubles we do, and have small children then getting a small stick vac is probably high on your priority list, we use ours a couple times a day to make sure that little ones do not end eating something they shouldn’t. The Black & Decker PSV1800 was our pick for a vacuum that best stood up to the heavy duty cleaning we needed on a daily basis in our home.

What We Wanted in a Upright cordless stick Vacuum

When we went looking for Stick Vacuum there were 3 main important points that we were looking for in a stick vacuum.

Plenty of Power for the Type of Pick-up we needed to use it for
Long Battery life to make sure we could use it for all the jobs we needed it for
It needed to be convenient and easy to use
Affordable Priced – Believe it or not you can spend hundreds of dollars for a stick vac, but for something that was relegated to cleaning up smaller messes I just could not justify the expense. We were looking for models that were not the cheapest because we needed them to work, but decided to avoid the overpriced models as well.

There are plenty of stick vacuums on the market but not too many of them could fulfill all of these important points. Even the Black Decker PSV1800 had its points where it fell a bit short of the mark, but then so did almost every other stick vacuum as well. What finally made our decision for us was to decide which stick vacuum features we just could not live without and which ones were more of an inconvenience than a deal breaker.

Cordless Power Gives the Black and Decker PSV1800 the flexibility You need

With an 18 volt motor this vacuum should never give you any trouble when it comes to picking up messes. We picked up cat litter, dog fur and bits of food with ours and never had a bit of trouble doing so. A word of caution here, because the PSV1800 comes with a 3 stage filter sometimes the dirt can get trapped, this can cause a reduction in suction.  In cases such as these you only need to take the filters apart and clean them and clean behind them and your vacuum will again work like it is supposed. Also it is extremely important to ensure that the filters on your vacuum are placed correctly together and everything seals the way it is supposed, many of the complaints about loss of suction with this model have been a result of improper cleaning or assembling the unit incorrectly. The user manual shows the correct way to assemble your filters and dirt container, make sure that you follow them carefully and you should have no troubles.

3 Stage Filters will Keep the pollen and dust IN the vacuum not in the air of your house

Filters are one of the most important parts of any vacuum. Why? Simple because if you do not have a good filter then the dust and pollen sneak back out of the vacuum and end up in the air in your home. Not only does it settle right back into the carpet, but it can be murder for those with allergies. The three stage filter means that very little of the dust ends up back in your home but is trapped by the filters. Now this does mean that you will need to take these filters outside and clean them from time to time but for those with allergies this is a price well worth it.

Cyclonic action has often been described by vacuum manufacturers but rarely does anyone tell you why this is important, cyclonic is just a fancy term to say that the dirt is pulled in a circular motion up the sides of the canister and filters, this motion keeps the filters and passages from getting clogged up as fast, meaning that your suction will stay stronger longer giving you a better clean.

So with the use of 3 stage filters and cyclonic action you will have the best chance of getting a good clean that will stay in the stick vac and not in your home and that is what we all want right?

Do you Love to Crawl around the floor and move Furniture? If so this Vacuum is NOT for you….

Seriously one of the biggest reasons I bought this vacuum is because I needed a way to get under the couch on a daily basis, but I have back problems and moving the couch or getting down on my knees is not an option. I have one of those kids that think that everything that does not go in her mouth goes under the couch and while we work hard to discourage this habit daily cleaning under the furniture is a necessity.

The Black Decker PSV1800 is one of the few vacuums that folds and allows you to reach under furniture without having to bend down too far. It provides a much better clean than a hose with an attachment does and keeps you from having to move furniture daily. I love this feature on my little stick vacuum and best of all I can use it daily so that the area under my furniture does not get a big collection of dust bunnies and other unmentionables deposited by my wonderful children.

One of my Biggest complaints about ANY vacuum ……

Is that it is next to impossible to get around the edges and in corners, in fact I hated having to pull the hose apart on the big vacuum to get these spots and with a stick vacuum you don’t always have that option. Most of them do not have a hose and those that do have no suction to speak of making them useless.

Having said that, this was one of the biggest selling points for me with the Black and Decker PSV1800, because it easily pivots and has pull out edge cleaners getting the edges and corners is EASY, now even when I use the big vacuum many times I will pull out my little stick vacuum and go around the edges, not only does this save me time but it saves me the inevitable back ache that comes from all that bending and straightening up.

The side suction vents pivot so that you can get them were they need to be, I don’t know about you but it is about time somebody made a Vacuum that gets the edges and corners properly!

Make sure you Don’t Scratch your Floor!

One of the biggest problems of using your vacuum on your new floors is that the brush can scratch the surfaces and ruin it. The Black and Decker PSV1800 solves that problem by allowing you to remove the beater bar when cleaning hard floors. This makes this upright cordless stick vacuum perfect for cleaning bare floors without ever worrying about whether they will scratch flooring.

The roller brush is great for getting pet hair out of the carpet, even the toughest vacuums will not suck pet hair up without a brush to pull it out of the carpet.

HINT: A removable beater bar also makes this vacuum MUCH easier to clean. It is inevitable that vacuums will get clogged with debris and that beater bars will get hair and other things caught up in them. What a genius idea to have an easily removable beater bar!! This will make your Vac last longer too!

It just does not get any easier to manage than this little vacuum

Ok you could probably find a lighter stick vacuum but you will have a hard time finding one as light as this one is and still have it work so well. Weighing less than 10 lbs even if you have a back problem like I do you will not have any trouble toting this up and down the stairs or putting it away. I can carry it in one hand with little trouble when it is extended out full length or when it is folded up.

Some people think that the folding and unfolding is a bit awkward, and I suppose they are right, but what I find is that having had other stick vacuums this is the price you pay for having a compact stick vacuum. Once it is folded up it fits into its cradle and will fit in a closet, under a table or just about anywhere else. I take my Black and Decker PSV1800 with me when we go places in the motor home because it is so compact yet works so well.

This is really ideal for really small homes or apartments where this is little storage space and certainly not enough for a full size vacuum.

Who will Get the MOST Benefit from this Stick Vacuum?

  • Those with really small homes or little or no storage space
  • Those that need a vacuum for their Motor Home
  • Moms with kids that needs a fast pick up
  • Those with back or other health problems that need something light and extra easy to use

So what is the Battery Life Like?

Ok I know this is a big thing on most peoples list, since I do not use my stick vacuum for super long at any one time I don’t have a problem with Battery life. I have looked around the Internet and found a lot of mixed reviews on battery life; some say it is great others say not. Here is what I found though, battery life on the Black & Decker PSV1800 is highly dependent on whether you are using with the beater bar or without, as well as what you are picking up with it and how hard it is having to work.

In General you can expect

  • With the Beater Bar – 15 minutes
  • Without the Beater bar – 20 minutes

Again this depends on how you use it, like I said, I use it in my home a lot and have never had a problem with the battery dying so you will just have to try it and see.

What We Loved about the Black and Decker PSV1800

  • More power than Most almost as much as corded vac
    Good suction
  • Great on the edges
  • Great for getting under furniture

What Some People Did Not like about the Black and Decker PSV1800

  • No cup Must fold it up and upend it to empty
  • Can Be a little unwieldy to unfold and fold up

Where Can I Find More Information and the Best Price on the Black and Decker PSV1800?

We Like to think that we a pretty savvy shoppers and are constantly on the lookout for the best deals on just about everything for the home. We got our Black and Decker PSV1800 at Amazon since they are generally the cheapest on Stick vacuums. Keep in mind that Amazon Sells out pretty quick on popular items so don’t wait too long before you order.

Dirt Devil Accucharge Review – Read this Before you Buy

The Dirt Devil Accucharge

Always a sucker for any gadget that claims to be more energy efficient, I ordered the Dirt Devil Accucharge with visions of saving the environment in mind. Now I know that I could just sweep my floors and really save energy but my busy lifestyle and house full of pets depends that I have an upright cordless stick vacuum that can make short work of the job. I ordered the Accucharge from Dirt Devil after seeking the Energy Star rating and reading that it had a much longer battery life. I have had plenty of stick vacuums in the past and always one of my biggest complaints has been the battery life.

With those thoughts in mind, I ordered my Dirt Devil Accucharge from Amazon. The reviews for the Dirt Devil Accucharge there were very good and that is what finally decided me. I had my cordless stick vacuum in about 3 days, which was great, I always hate waiting when I decide to buy something online. I was amazed at how light the package was, in fact I started to worry that I had made a mistake, what if this stick vacuum was cheaply made and would not last.

Unpacking the Box

As I unpacked the Dirt Devil Accucharge and put it together, it was very simple to assemble even someone one as mechanically declines as me had no problems with it. As with every other cordless item I plugged it in to let it charge. I was looking forward to seeing how long it took to charge since the ad said it charged 2 times faster.  Sure enough in about 6 hours the vacuum was fully charged and ready to use.

I have tile floors in the kitchen so the first thing I did was set the Dirt Devil Accucharge to cleaning all the nooks and crannies that the broom has such a hard time getting clean.  As I have said before I have had stick vacuums before but so many of them were unable to clean the bits of food, dog hair and dust from these cracks. No to with this Dirt Devil Cordless, my kitchen floor was as clean as it has ever been since we put it in, I simply love this little Cordless vacuum. It has a lot of neat little features that add up to an exceptional vacuum.

Features on the Dirt Devil Accucharge

  • AccuCharge Technology: Battery life is much longer than on most upright cordless stick vacuums, very short charging time, and uses 70% less energy
  • Energy Star Approved
  • 15.6 Volts means it has plenty of power for dog hair, bits of food and just about anything else
  • Interchangeably use on carpets and bare floors, the brush shuts off for bare floors so they do not get scratched
  • Compact – folds up for storage
  • Easy to remove dirt cup for quick clean up
  • 9 1/2 in Nozzle
  • Very light – weighs just 6 pounds

Oh yeah and remember I told you I was worried about how light the box is? Well at first I wondered how well built the unit was, and worried about it breaking. Well It is important to point out that for the stick vacuum to be light the materials must be light, but because it is plastic does not mean that it is not sturdy. My Dirt Devil Accucharge has lived through 2 dogs, a bird, an overly rambunctious 10 year old and a husband that does not know the meaning of careful and is still going strong.

Given all of that, I wanted to share with you what I thought were the highlights and lowlights of this otherwise incredible little cordless stick Vacuum.

What I loved: What was Not so Good:
  • How quickly the Battery charged
  • How much less energy it uses that my other appliance
  • Its suction is great, better than 2 of the other stick vacs I have owned
  • Easy to clean up
  • The Plastic looks a bit cheap, but it is still holding together
  • Needs to be kept really clean or suction goes down and makes an annoying noise, which is fine by me lasts longer if I keep it clean

You do not have to take it just from me, There are tons of Dirt Devil Accucharge Reviews on Amazon like these three below.

Embarassed by how much I love this vac!, August 19, 2010

I’ve never owned a cordless stick vac before, always had handheld vacs. Well, am I spoiled now! My great little shark hand vacuum is now relegated to the upstairs bathroom after ten years of use. I have a bad back and I was so tired of squatting and reaching under my kitchen table to vac up all the little crumbs and hairs from my two little blonde daughters, along with blades of grass from the yard. We have no pets so it’s mainly the children that create the messes. I have a large house but only the main floor, about 2000 square feet, needs daily attention. I have hardwood floors along with thick pile area rugs. This little vac works like a dream on everything! This vac has saved my back and given me a cleaner home than I’ve had in a long time. I use it daily, it zips and pivots around and under furniture easily. I wouldn’t use it to vacuum my wall to wall carpet any where in the house, it just doesn’t have enough suction for that but I didn’t buy it for that purpose. It’s for quick clean-ups around the main floor of my home. I disagree with other reviews that it’s too loud, it’s no louder than my little hand vac. My dirt devil stands up on it’s own, is super easy to clean and holds a charge for as long as I’ve asked it too. I’ve never had it run out of juice but I’ve never needed to use it more than 15 min. at a time. I’ve had this vac for almost two months now and couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase. I spent several weeks researching cordless stick vacs before making my decision and at this price, I am THRILLED with my purchase. Thank you Amazon for having the best price at the time.

Awesome Light-Weight Vacuum, August 20, 2010

This vacuum is great for stairs and small jobs. We have two puppies who like to leave little trails of junk all over the living room (torn paper, pieces of toys, etc). This vac allows us to quickly tidy up the living room without grabbing our large vacuum, plugging it in, wrapping it back up, and putting it away.

It runs for around 15-20 minutes steady before it starts winding down. It’s plenty of time for what we use it for.

Stairs are a breeze with it’s light weight and cordless design.

It works really well on our hard wood floors. The on switch has two slide-settings, the first is only suction, the second is suction with rotating bristles. The rotating bristles work excellently on carpets and suction-only works great on hard surfaces. I use this before I swiffer the kitchen floors — no more sweeping with a broom and dustpan.

Emptying the canister is a breeze, just push a button and dump it out then slide the canister back in.

If you’re looking for a vacuum to replace your huge corded monster, this isn’t it… and I doubt anything without a cord will ever be. We still run over our carpet with the big vac once a week or so, but for day-to-day vacuuming this is awesome.

Super satisfied, August 30, 2010

This little vacuum is wonderful. It is light weight, does a wonderful job on hard surfaces as well as carpets. I have 2 dogs with long hair and it picks up their hair and also all of the dirt and leaves they track in. My only “negative” is that it’s a bit noisy but most cordless vacs are noisy. It holds a charge nicely although I only use it for spot cleaning not for vacuuming the entire house. I highly recommend it. I used to buy Shark stick vacs but this is superior in my opinion.

Eureka 96 B – Convenience is Priority Number One with this Lightweight Cordless Vacuum

Sometimes you need a vacuum that is easy to handle right at hand and can quick up messes fast. The Eureka 96 B Quick up Vacuum is all of that and then some. Widely acclaimed by many as being the best stick vacuum in its class the Eureka 96 B will offer you every convenience you want at a price that is affordable, you can get this little power house at Amazon for just $69. When it comes to a vacuum cleaner Eureka is at the head of its field and their Quick Up Vacuum is no exception. The quality workmanship offered by this vacuum is second to none and it is one of the most convenient vacuums for busy families who do not want to hassle with a full size vacuum every time they have a mess to clean up.

We scoured the Internet looking for every review available on this little stick vacuum and were hard pressed to find anything bad about it. Sure there were the usual small handful of people who received defective units, but even this number seemed tiny compared to the hundreds of people that simply loved the Quick up eureka vacuums. The unit also has a few minor complaints normally by those that try to use it as a full size vacuum which it is not.

The Eureka 96 B Comes with Everything you Need

Many vacuums come with only the basics you need to operate them and it is up to you to buy extra filters, more batteries and any other accessories you might think you will need. One of the things that impressed us most about this vacuum cleaner by Eureka is that it comes with a second battery. Most stick vacuums have notoriously short battery lives, and this is one of the single biggest complaints, given the price of the Eureka 96 B it is impressive that they offer a second battery to ensure that you will have plenty of operating time to get your cleaning done.

A wall mount charging stand is also included to keep your stick vacuum out of the way and always ready to use. This cordless vacuum by Eureka is also bagless, so there are no bags to buy and easy remove cup can be emptied cleaned and replaced quick and easily.

Eureka 96 B Quick Up Features

While the price is quite affordable on the 96 B you will find that it still offers a generous amount of features that you will consider essential in a vacuum cleaner.

  • At 5.5 pounds the Eureka is exceptionally light weight and easy to maneuver
  • Cordless – Comes with 2 batteries and wall mount charger
  • Double Motor Power
  • Clean Air System
  • Revolving Brush Roll – with an on/off switch for switching from bare floor to carpets
  • Removable Stick Handle- use it as hand held vacuum
  • Easy to remove and empty dust cup
  • One Year Warranty

Why you Might Buy the Eureka 96 B

I might have convinced you that the Eureka 96 B is a superior product that will serve you well for years to come, but now you may be wondering will this vacuum suit my needs? This question is not always a simple one since it will really depend on what you plan to use it for. The Quick up by Eureka vacuums exceptionally well, especially when you considering the class of vacuum that it is, but it is important to keep two very important factors in mind:

  • This is a stick vacuum and stick vacuums are made to clean up quick messes, vacuum hard floor surfaces, small areas and clean hard to reach places such as the stairs. If you are looking for a vacuum to clean a large area or a thick pile carpet you will be disappointed regardless of what stick vacuum you buy. If you need a heavy duty vacuum then that is what you should consider buying.
  • This is also a cordless vacuum and as such it is not designed for really large areas or heavy work situations. Even though this is one of the few stick vacuums that offer a second battery you will still find that a heavy duty corded vacuum will be a better choice for cleaning your entire home.

So what would you use a Eureka 96B Quick Up stick vacuum for?

  • Dorm rooms and small apartments where there is no room for a full size vacuum.
  • For cleaning up small messes on a daily basis, the kids or pets may leave behind
  • Keeping your tile floors clean and dust free
  • Carpeted patios and porches that you may not want to use a full size vacuum on
  • Vacuuming your stairs
  • Getting the dust from hard to reach places that your big vacuum just cannot reach

You will Love the Eureka Quick Up – Here’s Why

There is long list of reasons why the Eureka 96 B is the best stick vacuum you can buy, it is powerful for a stick vacuum and does a great job of cleaning up messes, in fact most reviewers say that it is simply the best on the market. Cyclonic technology is used to ensure that dust is pulled up into the cup and trapped there so that it does not end up in the air or back in your carpet. Finally a beater bar ensures that trapped dirt comes up out of your carpet and gets sucked up into the dust cup where it needs to be.

The bare floor/ carpet switch will turn the beater brush on and off, for when you don’t need it on bare floors. Built in edge cleaners ensure that you get all of the dirt in tight spots such as under or behind the couch or on the stairs.

Here are more reasons why you will love the Eureka as well as a few things that may cause you problems:

Pros Cons
  • Two batteries means your clean up job gets done every time
  • Extendable handle puts the control in your hands
as to how you want to use it – use it as both a hand held
    vacuum and a stick vacuum
  • Beater brush and floor switch allow you to use it anywhere in the house
  • Edge cleaner gets in close in tight spots
  • Powerful enough for most jobs
  • Does not come with attachments
  • Is not meant for big cleaning jobs on thick carpets
  • Does not suction heavy items such as dog food bits

For the money you spend you will not find a better upright stick vacuum, the Eureka 96 B offers a powerful stick vacuum that will do most any light duty jobs that you have for it. With hundreds of positive reviews this affordable vacuum has a well-deserved reputation of being the affordable little work horse that simply cannot be beat.

Amazon has 325 reviews on this little jewel, here are a couple more reviews that will show you how much people love the Eureka 96 B and you can check out all the reviews for yourself at this link : Eureka 96 B Reviews

This vacuum has improved my life

However debris-free our kitchen floor may be in the morning, it is, by the end of the night, usually covered in a fine layer of crushed Cheerios. What’s to be done? Picking up stuff with a broom and dustpan is laborious. Hauling out the regular vacuum cleaner is too much to ask. And much as I love the Swiffer–and I do love the Swiffer–its forte is dust clean-up, not picking up crumbs.

Enter the Eureka Boss Lite Upright Cordless, probably the best product I bought last year. It’s light. It holds its charge long enough to do everything I’ve ever wanted to do with it. It slips on and off its recharging holder thing easily. And it does a good job, thank you very much–by which I mean that I have pretty much abandoned the aforementioned regular vacuum cleaner (in every room, not just the kitchen) because I just don’t need it anymore. And of course the big advantage is that because of its great ease of use one can more easily and more often clean one’s floor. On an average day I probably take this thing out two or three times.

Another reviewer mentioned the desirability of having a hose attachment for getting into corners. I would like this too, if (and only if) it could be added to the machine without making it (the machine) any more cumbersome or complicated. At any rate, a delightful vacuum cleaner that has made life easier around here. I highly recommend it.

3rd One!

This is my third Eureka Cordless Stick. It’s by far the most powerful one on the market. I decided to try and Electrolux and returned it for this reliable Eureka. This is not meant for vacuuming the entire house. It lasts about 15 minutes and will clean your tile or wood floors and low pile carpet. Love, love, love it.

MOST POWERFUL CORDLESS VAC I HAVE EVER USED

It is wonderful! For someone who has several indoor cats, I swear by this hand vac.

PROS: It picks up pet hair better than any vacuum I know.
It is great for fluffing up heavy traffic areas on your carpet and stairs
My carpet looks like I use my full size vacuum, it picks up everything
Great on tile floors in the kitchen and bath, picks up crumbs and hair beautifully
Its light weight.
The handle comes off for use on furniture and it helps on the stairs
Picks up cat food and cat litter

I have one minor con but I don’t dare give it less than five stars. I love it that much.

CONS: Wish the battery life was longer, but that’s ok because it comes with two strong rechargable chargers that can be charged at the same time. I like using it in my entire home, not just for spot clean up. It just makes the carpet look so fresh

As you can see the Eureka 96 B has earned a reputation of being one of the most complete cordless stick vacuums on the market. If you are on a budget and need a really good stick vacuum this vacuum will do the Job.

The Affordable Hoover Flair S2220 Offers the Most Bang for your Buck

Finding an affordable stick vac can be difficult, most of the stick vacuums in the budget category simply do not live up to their promise and leave most people wishing that they had chosen something else. Not so with the Hoover Flair S2220, while you will not be using it to vacuum your entire house with it does a great job of taking care of what it was intended to take care of, small messes and bare floors.

What You can Expect From the Hoover Flair S2220

Most people buy stick vacuums with the belief that they can use them for cleaning an entire house, this is not what these vacuums are designed for so for those that buy them for that purpose they are obviously disappointed. What the Hoover Flair S2220 is best for is picking up small messes, the long handle and light weight make it convenient and ideal with those small areas where a larger vacuum is difficult to navigate or where you may feel reluctant to pull it out just to clean up a small mess.

The Hoover Flair S2220 has a 7 – 2/5 amp motor that will pick up most small messes with ease. At just over 10 pounds the Hoover Flair is easy to navigate and get into difficult to reach areas such as behind furniture and on stairs. While the Hoover Flair is not cordless like many of the other models we review on this site, it does have an extra-long 20ft cord that will keep you from having to constantly change outlets as you clean. The corded feature also means more consistent power and leaves no chance that you will run out of power before you are done using it.

The Hoover S2200 Flair bagless comes with an EZ empty dirt cup along with a heavy duty filtration system to ensure the dust stays in the cup and does not go back up into the air.

Complete List of Hoover Flair S2220 Features:

  • 7-2/5 amp motor offers all the power you will need for your small vacuuming jobs
  • Power Nozzle with extra motor to ensure that your carpet come clean
  • Button operated switching from carpet cleaning to bare floor cleaning
  • EZ empty cup for bagless convenience
  • Large rear wheels and swivel floor nozzle to allow for total maneuverability and reaching the tough spots.
  • More powerful than cordless models in its class offering more clean for your money
  • Weighs just 10 pounds
  • Sleek European styling and quiet operation

Who is the Hoover Flair S2220 for?

As we already touched on the Hoover Flair is not a full size vacuum and should not be used like one, the Hoover Flair is designed to do the jobs that you do not want to pull your full size vacuum out to do. It is for those who have kids or pets and simply need something that can do a light vacuum pickup on a daily basis. The Hoover Flair S2220 is also for those who prefer a corded stick vacuum over a cordless, since cordless power is often not quite up to par with a corded model, it may be ideal for those of you that have pets and need to clean up pet food messes or other heavy and difficult messes to clean up.

The Hoover Flair S2220 may also be the ideal vacuum to send with your kid to college to keep their dorm room clean or to use in a studio apartment where a big vacuum is just too big to navigate and takes too much room to store.

Finally for those that need a lighter vacuum that is easier to maneuver such as the elderly or those with arthritis the Hoover Flair may offer an alternative that is easier to use for messes than a full size vacuum. They still will not be able to use it for full cleaning but in between a thorough vacuum it will give them something they can use that is easy for them to manage.

Pros Cons
  • Corded power to pick up big messes easier
  • Never runs out of power
  • Lightweight and easy to use
  • Easy to empty and clean dust cup
  • Very maneuverable
  • Lacks the Freedom of cordless models
  • Some reviewers report that if you use them too
long or too hard for which they are not designed for they will over heat.

Amazon offers over 1100 reviews on the Hoover Flair as well as the Hoover Flair S2220 being listed as #35 in the top 100 home and garden products on their website. You cannot go wrong with this little power house however if you are still not sure you may want to check out for yourself what other Amazon customers have to say about the Hoover Flair.

Love This Little Vac

This is a fantastic little vac. It isn’t as loud as my last stick vac and it doesn’t scratch my wood floors. The first day I bought it I really put it through the paces. I was impressed with how well it cleans floors, carpets and rugs with fringe. I love the fact that you can turn off the roller to do the fringed rugs and floors. It picked up popcorn and screws easily. Sand and gravel from the kids shoes, no problem. After a rain, the floor got a little muddy from all the kids going in and out so I just turned on the brush and VOILA, the dried mud went right up.
It really does stand on it’s own, even on a soft cushy carpet.
The only changes left to make is to lengthen the cord a bit and put a small pull-out nozzle high up on the side so I can use it for practically everything, such as dusting windowsills. I won’t let my wish list ruin the review though. 5 stars for the best little vac I’ve had yet.

The guy review of a bagless vacuum-UPDATE

I went out looking for a small vacuum WITH a bag, trying to avoid the bagless (didn’t want to deal with the dust), but changed my mind when I found this one.

Excellent and no-nonsense. I can whip this baby out and have it running in 3 seconds. This thing is great for quick clean ups, like the kitchen, although I have used it for a complete downstairs vacuuming

Good points: two modes–carpet and floor. Works both surfaces great. The carpet-mode simply powers up the power head roller.

The low-profile, swivel head means I can get under everything, everywhere, even couches, which means less furniture to move.
Quick-release power cord hook, so I’m not spending five minutes unraveling the reasonably-long cord.

See-thru “unbag” so you know when it’s getting full.

It is small enough to store anywhere, even has a hole in the top of the handle to hang in a closet.

Bad points: I’m thinking hard on this one. OK, the power switch is too low (see the picture). It is also bagless, which I found is actually GOOD point as it keeps this vacuum light and small. The “bag” is very easy to pull out and empty. With no bags to buy, the price makes this an excellent choice.

It’s also great for chasing cats around the house.

UPDATE: The handle needs some kind of rubber coating to prevent it from falling when leaned against a wall or counter; managed to break the lower cord catch due to repeated falls. Naturally, I immediately bought another (from Amazon, of course).

Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum – Best in its Class

When it comes to a lightweight bagless vacuum there are few that can compare with the Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum
. In fact you will find that this upright cordless stick vacuum comes as close to a regular vacuum than any other stick vacuum in its class. We tested this stick vacuum in hopes that it would do a good job of spot cleaning for our home, with a ten year old, two dogs and two birds, our vacuum needs to be tough. Not only so it can pick up messes but so that it will last more than a couple of months.
There were a number of things that I really liked about this vacuum, from the removable rechargeable battery to the battery meter; this vacuum is much easier to manage the power on than previous cordless vacuums.  The vacuum is a lot lighter than I expected it to be weighing in at just 7 pounds and it has a washable filter, one of the things I complain about the most in any type of vacuum, no buying expensive filters when they get too dirty.

Does the Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Have Enough Power for Daily Use?

What people most want to know however is how powerful the vacuum actually is, I used a cordless vacuum every day to clean up after my birds, so the vacuum has to be strong enough to suck up seeds and powerful enough to control the heavy bird dander that our cockatiel suffers from. I have had this vacuum for about 2 months now and it has done a wonderful job of keeping my room clean and keeping the dander down to a minimum.

It works just as well on my shag carpet as it does on the stone tiles in the kitchen and with the powerful Hoover Wind Tunnel technology the dust ends up in the dust cup not in the air. While I honestly cannot say that the Hoover Linx cordless stick vacuum does as good a job as my full size vacuum, when I need a daily clean it is much easier to navigate than the bigger one. When I need a deep clean which is not nearly as often I still have my big hoover to take care of that.

Many people complain about the poor battery life, but this vacuum has a lot more power than you would expect from a stick vacuum so I really did not expect the battery to last that long. There is a cure for this too of course because the battery is removable and interchangeable you can buy extra batteries for longer jobs. Finally a meter on the handle shows you when your battery life is getting low, so you are never taken by surprise in the middle of a vacuuming job. The vacuum gets about 20 minutes on a charge and takes about 3 hours to recharge, not bad when you consider what you are getting.

A removable cup makes clean up simple when you are done vacuuming, simply empty the cup in the garbage and wash out the filter, then you are ready for the next time you use it. The vacuum head is a full size 11 in nozzle, and has brushes that can be retracted with a flip of a switch when you are cleaning bare floors such as wood. The vacuum has an automatic height adjustment and an extreme recline handle that allows for easier access under the furniture.

Features you will love about the Hoover Linx cordless stick vacuum

  • 18 volt Lithium Ion Battery – Remove from the vacuum and charge on the included charging base, additional batteries are available. Indicator shows you exactly how much  battery life you have left
  • Lightweight – at just over 7 pounds this vacuum has the maneuverability to get into the tightest and hardest to reach spaces.
  • Great for cleaning both rugs and hard surfaces – switch on the handle for moving back and forth between the two.
  • 6 year warranty on the vacuum and 2 years on the battery and charger
  • Washable filter

Things that Hoover Could Improve

  • Battery life is the one thing that seems to be the biggest complaint about the Hoover Linx cordless stick vacuum. 20 minutes seems to be about the max battery life, and although that is usually ample for the quick pick up jobs this vacuum is designed for, many people would like to see a longer battery life.
  • Small dirt cup, many people wish the dirt cup was bigger, however keep in mind that the Hoover Linx is not a full size vacuum, and weight and size are an issues. It would not be nearly as easy to use or maneuver if the battery or cup were any bigger. This machine is meant as a portable vacuum which is performs very well as.
  • Not a replacement for your full size vacuum, this machine works great for light cleaning but if you need a deep clean then you will probably want to get a bigger vacuum.
  • Expensive – the Hoover Linx was $170 which most people felt was too much, if you buy it now through Amazon however you can get it for $142.

One of the things that most people love most about the Hoover linx is how well it works and how well built it is. Check out what other people had to say about the Hoover Linx:

J Becker :

Pros:
Cleans well – on/off brushroll for bare floors or area rugs/carpeting, excellent on pet hair
Control on handle – easy to use
Charge indicator accurate & useful
Dust cup very easy to empty & clean (including baffle tube when necessary)
Filter easy to clean
Stands up to store

Cons:
Awkward on stairs – no stair-handle, must support from below. I’m getting used to this, and it’s easier if I use my stronger hand for the machine and weaker hand for the handle.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Hoover Platinum CSV is absolutely shines in two areas: ease of use (switching from brushroll on to brushroll off, going between surface heights & types), and cleaning ability, especially the tricky maneuver of getting pet hair off area rugs.

W Sprinkle
Wonderful cordless and easy to use

I bought this vacuum and it works like a charm. No more cords to fall over or have to keep plugging and unplugging. Really does an excellent job on my wood floors and gets all the dust and lint vacuumed. Also works well on carpets.

I do plan to get the extra battery so it will be ready at all times but you don’t need to if you are willing to wait three hours for the battery to recharge.
